Office of the Controller of Examinations

The office of the Controller of Examinations is responsible for the conduct of scheduled examinations of all the following academic streams.

End Semester Examinations are conducted every year in the months of April and November for the students of University Departments, Affiliated Colleges and Collaborative Programmes. End Semester Examinations are conducted every year in the months of May and December for the students of Distance Education and Online Education. The Schedule for the End Semester Examinations shall be published on the University website five weeks prior to the commencement of examinations and a detailed time-table shall be published three weeks prior to the commencement of examination with the details of examination centres. Students are advised to visit the website of Alagappa University https://alagappauniversity.ac.in for the information related to their End Semester Examination.

Examination Automation

The office of the Controller of Examinations has implemented total automation in the examination process of all the academic streams of University through its well established physical as well as ICT infrastructures. We are the pioneers in conducting the examinations through online, introducing on-screen and online evaluation processes among the Universities of the country.

Tamil Nadu Innovation and Initiatives of State Planning Commission, (TANII) Government of Tamil Nadu has sanctioned a sum of Rupees 4.5 Crore to the University to develop a novel method for digital evaluation and to implement the same in the end semester examinations of Alagappa University. Through this Innovative Project 150 number of high configuration computers, sophisticated duplex scanners, answer booklet batching machines, automatic answer booklet cutter machines, I.D. markers, automatic stapler maker, software for quality checking, Rack Servers with Xeon Processor with 24 T.B. capacity & 256 GB RAM, Network Attached Storage Servers with 24 T.B. capacities, 1 and 10 Giga bit managed network switches, projector and LED display boards, high resolution colour printers have been installed at TANII Digital Evaluation Centre of Alagappa University.

Different parts involved in the examination automation processes
  1. Setting up of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Infrastructure, Networking, Technical Manpower & Help Desk.
  2. Adoption of e-Governance (online data collection for preparation of Students Galley for Examinations, online submission of exam application, online payment of exam fee, generation of e-Hall Ticket and preparation of session wise nominal roll) to operate with Paperless Communication and Cashless Transactions effectively.
  3. Communication with Departments / Colleges / Institutes through dedicated online portals and institutional e-mails.
  4. Pre-Exam Process (including preparation of session wise nominal roll based on data collected through online portal).
  5. On-Exam Process (Sharing the question papers through online portal, collection of absentees statement on portal and bar-code enabled answer booklets).
  6. Post-Exam Process (Disowning Student information from the answer script prior to the evaluation process, scanning of marks entered by the examiner and result processing).
  7. Publication of Results and Post-Result Process (Re-valuation of answer script and photocopy of answer script, etc).
  8. Issuance of Certificates.
  9. Report Generation and Preservation of Data.

  1. Speedy publication of accurate and error-free Results.
  2. Reduction in exam expenditure
  3. Elimination of manual intervention as well as unintentional errors.

  6. Appointment of Chief Superintendents.
  7. Issuance of Invigilation duty order.
  8. Processing of Panel of examiners (internal and external).
  9. Supply of answer booklets & stationeries and collection of answer scripts.

Affiliated Colleges Division
  1. Update of student data for U.G., P.G. and M. Phil. programs.
  2. Preparation of Nominal Roll list of candidates appearing for exams.
  3. Preparation of faculty wise Staff Seniority list.
  4. Coordination with Principals / Chairpersons / Chief Examiners / Examiners.
  5. Preparation of exam schedule & time-table.
  6. Facilitating Hall ticket generation.
  7. Processing of Panel of Examiners (external).
  8. Appointment of External Examiners.
  9. Supply of answer booklets & stationeries and collection of answer scripts.
  10. Coordination in the conduct of examinations.
  11. Conduct of central valuation at the office of CoE.
  12. Re-valuation of scripts (on request).

  7. Receipt of Answer scripts from Exam Centres and segregation into program-wise course-wise and centre-wise.
  8. Preparing the panel of Chairperson and examiners.
  9. Sending of Appointment order to the Examiners.
  10. Conduct of central valuation at the office of CoE.
  11. Re-valuation of scripts (on request).
  12. Publication of Results.
  13. Printing and verification of Individual Mark Statement (IMS), Cumulative Mark Statement (CMS), Provisional Certificate (PC) and Degree Certificate (DC).
  14. Dispatching of certificates by INDIAPOST by BNPL scheme for security and easy tracking.
  15. Preparation of Convocation list.
  16. Convocation related works.
  17. Issue of Genuineness Certificate.

Dr. S. Arun obtained his M.Sc from Annamalai University, Ph.D. from Bharathidasan University and did his Post Doctoral Research in CSIC, Barcelona, Spain. He has 10 years of Research experience in the field of Aquatic Toxicology and Xenobiotic Metabolism and 18 years of Administrative experience as Deputy Controller of Examinations in Alagappa University.
